There is a common misconception among people that HIV Aids only attack specific patients and show specific symptoms of HIV. The HIV statistics reveal that people of any age, race, sexual preference, background or lifestyle can affected this disease while some people still believe that the disease only attack people in prostitutes, homosexuals, and drug users.

Many people have misunderstanding of this disease that the symptoms only appear when someone gets infected. That is why most people HIV testing if the symptoms begin to show. Being sick continuously is do not means that someone get infected to this disease. It is important to know that many people do not show the symptoms at all for months or even years. Symptoms of HIV do have numerous kinds which seem different each other. While diseases such as herpes and gonorrhea have specific symptoms, HIV is an immune deficiency which has no specific symptoms. This condition is leading to wrong diagnose which makes people more susceptible to other illnesses. People often think that a cold or flu is often a symptom of HIV.

HIV Aids is very dangerous illness because any contact with the blood or fluids of an infected person can result in transmitting symptoms of HIV. It often develops within a few days after infection but it may occur several weeks after the person is infected. General symptoms of HIV may include abdominal cramps, nausea, or vomiting, diarrhea, enlarged lymph nodes in the neck and armpits, fever, headache, muscle pain, skin rash, sore throat, weight loss. These first symptoms can range from mild to severe and usually disappear on their own after 2 to 3 weeks.

These symptoms of HIV can also be found with other illnesses. It is important to take regular HIV testing to make sure that your status is negative. Many people can live remarkably long and healthy lives with the disease when it diagnosed early.

In current culture, it’s often prudent to be tested for various sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or diseases (STDs). One of the most important tests is for HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). However, there are critical facts you should know which your health care provider may not inform you of.

An HIV test can be done as part of battery of other STI/STD testing, or it can be done more or less alone. Unfortunately if the test is part of a broader screening, health care workers will rely on your answers to questions when deciding whether or not to order an HIV test as part of a larger group of tests.

This can be one of the first problems. Unfortunately your answers may not be as complete and accurate as you would like. You obviously don’t know what you don’t know, and in the realm of sexually transmitted infections and diseases, that means that you are unlikely to know 100% of the variables introduced by other partners.

Another potential problem is that doctors generalize, and that can be bad news for you. They also may not care about your health as much as you do. Both issues were encountered by a friend of mine who recently got a series of tests for STIs. Based on her geographic location, the doctor did not automatically test for HIV. The reason was that “It’s not too common around here.” When it comes to HIV, generalizations can kill you.

One of the most worrisome facts that are neglected is this: Though your doctor may not tell you, it can take up to six months for a person to test positive after being infected with HIV. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), at three months after infection, there is still a 3% chance that a person has not developed detectable antibodies to the virus. This is a problem, because most HIV tests are the variety which test for antibodies. If the test is performed prior to six months after potential exposure, it may incorrectly indicate that a person is HIV free.

An alternative test is the RNA test. It can detect the HIV virus directly. The time between HIV infection and RNA detection is 9-11 days. But these tests are more costly and used less often than antibody tests.

Though a 3% chance of an inaccurate test may seem small, ask yourself this: Would you get on a plane if the pilot told you there is a 3% chance it will crash? Probably not.

Only you can decide what level of risk you are comfortable with. However, in the arena of HIV, you are potentially impacting another person’s life as well, and zero tolerance would be a more responsible choice.

As per recent surveys, erectile dysfunction is one of the most common sexual health related problems in men. The main reason for this is that most men see erectile problems as something to be ashamed of and are reluctant to address the problem with their physicians. Erectile dysfunction refers to difficulty in getting the penis erect or maintaining it in the erect position for substantial periods. Men with erectile dysfunction are able to ejaculate, but the satisfaction of intercourse is minimal. Besides, penile problems can indicate much serious conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular problems and nervous disorders. Men need to realize that an erectile dysfunction disorder is nothing to be ashamed of and that it can be cured in almost every situation.

The first course of action that most men adopt for erectile dysfunction is the drug sildenafil, popularly called Viagra. However, in nearly a third of the cases, the patients do not respond to Viagra. Moreover, Viagra can be potentially lethal to men with cardiovascular disease and hence the drug cannot be prescribed to all. Nonetheless, there are various other solutions to dysfunction problems, but before a treatment can be finalized the underlying cause for the dysfunction needs to be identified. Sometimes, men cannot achieve erection because of performance anxiety and such an issue can be resolved in a few sessions with a psychologist.

Men tend to opt out of invasive procedures, but they are highly effective. Penile injections, for example, can help men achieve erection just five minutes after being administered. However, the thought of excusing themselves before intercourse to go stick a needle into their penis is not something most men are willing to do. Another aid for erectile dysfunction is the penis pump, which is a battery operated vacuum device that draws blood in to the penis to help it stay erect. However, the process is painful and the penis needs to be sufficiently lubricated to prevent injury. An effective solution for long-term erectile dysfunction issues is the internal penile pump, which is inserted in to the penis through a minor surgical procedure. The initiation and maintenance of the erection from these insertions are completely under the control of the patient.

Most test for STD’s are done at your request or if you’re pregnant. A pregnant woman with an STD such as Herpes or HIV is at risk of transferring the virus to her unborn baby resulting in severe illness or death. Because of the rising epidemic of HIV infected individuals and herpes cases today, it is very important to get tested. This is especially so because Herpes and HIV are incurable; with HIV being potentially fatal. People fear getting tested but once you know your status it can empower you to take better care of yourself and be more responsible.

If you have sores on your genitals, a sample can be taken and cultured. The virus multiplies and can be seen under a microscope. Another test involves a solution which contains antibodies that is added to the sample. The virus multiplies and glows when viewed under a special microscope. The only drawback with this type of testing is that the virus is detected only in it’s active form. These test can also tell you what type of herpes you have and how you were infected. HSV 1 can be transmitted to the genitals through oral sex and HSV 2 can be transmitted through intercourse or anal sex. As stated above, the culture detects the herpes virus in it’s active form. False negative results are possible if the sores have begun healing or if this isn’t your first outbreak. Blood test for herpes are done when there are no symptoms and are more accurate. However, if you are newly infected it may not show up for several weeks since it takes time for antibodies to the virus to show up in the blood. That is why if you suspect you may be infected you should have a repeat test several weeks after the first one.

The HIV test most commonly used in the US is the EIA or enzyme immunoassay formerly known as (Elisa). This test on blood samples looks for antibodies to the HIV virus. A positive EIA must be confirmed with a Western Blot on the same sample. HIV test using oral fluids are obtained from the mouth with a special device. Saliva isn’t used for testing but oral fluids found in the mouth. The test is similar to the EIA test done on blood. If the test is positive then a Western Blot is done on the same oral sample to confirm the results. There are rapid HIV screening test but if reactive must also be confirmed by the Western Blot. Home testing kits are popular since being licensed in 1997, but only one has been approved by the FDA. The Home Access HIV 1 Test System is a home collection kit. The kit has instructions on how to obtain a sample, mailing it and how to obtain your results. There are supportive services available throughout this process.

One problem with aids is that a victim of AIDS virus do not develop symptoms after getting infected with HIV. HIV as we all know causes AIDS when the virus destroys much of the body’s immune system. Some may get sick, a flu for a week, headache, tiredness and usually disappears within a week. So its hard to tell whether you are already infected with HIV or not. One of the most common information that we have is that HIV can be acquired through blood transfusion and sexual contact. But that’s about it. We hardly know a thing or two about AIDS. All we know is that there is still no permanent cure for it.

Initial infection might not show any symptoms at all. It often varies from person to person. And this condition may last from a few weeks to more than 10 years! During this time, the virus continues to grow rapidly and increase in number. It gradually destroys our immune system, or our system that fights bacterias and protects our body from getting sick. Now with our immune system weakening, a person with HIV can have one or several symptoms: Lack of energy, soaking night sweats, chronic diarrhea, persistent white body spots, headaches, weight loss, skin rashes and distorted vision. If this symptoms are readily visible, then one should immediately see a doctor.

As members of the society, we should do our part to help in disseminating information on how to stop AIDS. By spreading information about how to protect oneself from getting AIDS, we might be able to decrease the spreading of the disease. Supporting AIDS victims can lessen the feeling of isolation and that there is still hope for AIDS victims. There are a lot of charitable institutions that support research for possible AIDS cure. You can make money donations or used car donations, anything that can help support this charities will be appreciated.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is one of the most dreaded diseases. Why? HIV infection is currently a global pandemic that health authorities from all nations are greatly concerned about. Aside from the disease having no known cure, HIV infection will eventually progress to full-blown AIDS. That is why HIV testing is now being recommended for people from all walks of life.

There are many ways that HIV testing is performed. Most of the tests are done through a blood screen. Some of the tests to determine HIV include the HIV antibody screen, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and the P24 antigen test. The HIV antibody test is the most preferred by many people because it is accurate and inexpensive. You might wonder how such test works. If you are infected with HIV, your body will try to fight the infection by producing antibodies. The HIV antibody screen will look for such HIV antibodies in the blood as well as in saliva and urine. In contrast, the PCR test works by determining the genetic material of the HIV, rather than the antibodies. This is the reason why this screen is also called the HIV nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) and viral load test. Meanwhile, the P24 antigen test will look for the P24 antigen. P24 antigen is the protein that commonly provokes an antibody response when a person is infected with HIV.

Modern technology has made HIV testing a lot easier and quicker. There are currently available rapid tests wherein the results are back in just 30 minutes. These tests are performed through blood or oral fluid tests. A confirmatory screen is needed if you are found to be positive in the rapid screen. There are also HIV tests which are called fourth generation tests. Such tests combine P24 antigen tests and antibody tests for more accurate and quicker test results. If you are sexually active and have multiple sexual partners, it is a good idea to have a HIV test. You can also undergo such a test if you are an intravenous drug user, a man having sex with other men or just simply concerned that you might have been infected with the disease.

Among the many HIV symptoms in men, infections are the most common. Generally, the infections can have as a starting point the first contact with the virus upon the body; sexual intercourse, related to the Chlamydia infection, infection of the scratched wound through which the virus entered the body, infection on the pierced skin, or needle puncture and so on.

Infections are most common, and the body can fight them off easily, especially at the skin level, due to the high number of white cells set on alert beneath the skin. Because the HIV virus attacks the immune system, once it has entered the organism through a punctured wound, the white cells are no longer capable of fighting with the virus. Once destroyed, less and less white cells reach the pierced spot on the skin to protect it from bacteria. As so, the spot on the skin, where the virus entered the body is most likely to get infected.

Very different from a normal infection, the infection caused by the HIV virus to the skin is very aggressive, and can contain over thousands of millions of multiplying bacteria, simply because the body can not fight them off. Strong antibiotics are recommended, for those that know to have this condition. For those that experience an infection for more than 5 days, and spreading, after the medical appointment the HIV test is mandatory. The virus is very easy to detect at this point, and this can be one of the best signs to show its presence, and start a treatment.

HIV symptoms in men include these types of manifests every time, either as a body response, either as an infection of the skin because of the lack of immunity. Because in females this is a symptom that manifests later in the development of the virus, in men it can be a good sign to find the HIV infection and treat it before spreading out of control.
